Thought I would just put up some random pictures.....today when David and I went grocery shopping I took the picture of the rolled up RECYCLING BAGS, which are free. They have a pretty good system here, NO garbage trucks here---you do it yourself. The yellow bags are for GARBAGE, the blue bags are for all recyclables except glass, and the white bags are for COMPOST. And all this can be dropped off at any site near your home. They are in many conspicuous places. Also there are boxes to recycle vegetable oil, shoes and clothes too.
This is one of the most spectacular persimmon trees we've seen recently. They look so great with all the leaves off and so many fruit still on the tree. Must be the time to harvest soon.
The Italians love to point out the HAIR growing on these hams.....sort of disgusting really! And you all know about the cardoons that grow in my back yard every year, getting really tall in the summers, well here are the STALKS, eaten by Italians...not sure exactly how.
Lastly, Sandro went out into the backyard when he was visiting and harvested ALL of David and Claudia's olives....this is IT. Sure to more next year.

Wonderful refuse collection system Italians have- so much better than ours. We could take lessons. Great picture to explain it. Rabbit - was it good? We went to a hotel, the Doubletree, the parent company of which is in bankruptcy. Four other major hotels in Tucson are owned by the same bankrupt company. Alan and his sister and nephew were here for a visit. They stayed with Ed. Hope you are warm and toasty. Love your pictures. Laura
the mountain pic looks like Taos. We have snow on our mtn tops here too--hope it dumps big so skiers can play en Burque. economy tanking tanking--gas prices dropping way down--good news daily on Obama--he's for real, has a soul AND a brain--there is hope. xoxox mm
Hi Gretchen,
Sounds like you are really into Italian life now and having a good time. Things here are quiet, just reviewing students' last projects and trying to make time to write a few Christmas cards.
The weather is cold here, around 70! :-) Tomorrow is the big Christmas party for the Dept. of English, and then on the week-end other parties to attend.
I leave for OR the 22 of Dec., back the 27. I won't be online during that time, but will look forward to reading your posts when I return.
I love the name of the mountains and the images of them look good. I am sure you will get some great paintings from of the trip. I can imagine you in your room/garret, looking out over the rooftops--painting until you have no more soft Italian light. My romanticism again . . .
Anyway, friend, take good care and enjoy yourself.
More soon,
Judy
